I was greatly honoured to be invited to revisit my YOW! Connected ReactiveCocoa talk on the main YOW! tour visiting Melbourne, Brisbane & Sydney. This was a combined talk with Ben Teese, who was covering React Native - an unmissable opportunity for me to get in a lot of cheap shots at JavaScript.
@FakeSamRitchie is slowly offending all the javascript devs in the room, explaining compilation, types and immutability #yow15 #swift

It was a three track conference, so luckily that meant over the three cities I managed to attend most of the other talks I wanted to see. Some highlights were Bodil Stokke’s entirely live-coded implementation of monad comprehension using ES6 generators, Matt Ranney’s hilarious description of failure at Uber, Mike Magruder’s fascinating reveal of Facebook’s mobile performance testing, and Dave Hahn’s talk about ‘Chaos Engineering’ at Netflix.
I somehow managed to get through three lots of live coding demos without technical failure, which is a remarkable improvement over Swift demos I’ve done on previous Xcode versions.
The slides from our talk are available here, and the code from the demo is up on bitbucket. The video of the (Brisbane) talk is available below.
My #yow15 co-presenter @FakeSamRitchie has done coding demos in Mel, Syd & Bris without a hitch; clearly the live-coding gods smile upon him
